What are some good examples of "life isn't fair"?

Author: Adalyn Davis

That’s Ricky Lamont Kidd.
At age 22, Ricky was sentenced to four life sentences in a Missouri prison without parole for a crime he did not commit.
Ricky was in prison for 23 years before he was finally released.
"It was like falling asleep and going into a nightmare, except not being able to wake up from it for 23 years," he said. "It was like standing in a crowded plaza screaming you’re innocent, but no one is listening and keeps passing you by."
During his first year in prison, Ricky had a tough time, but he knew that in order to maintain his sanity and achieve his freedom, he needed to act fast.
"I was innocent of the crime, but guilty of poor lifestyle choices. I owed it to myself to be better and do better so that if ever I was able to regain my deserved freedom, I would be a productive citizen and an inspiration to others," he said. "I took programs, facilitated programs, then created them. I had life without parole, but I would help others prepare for going back into society. I found pleasure living vicariously through others."
After pleading for help for nearly a decade, his case taken by Sean O’Brien, a professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law.
His new legal team found that the prosecutor withheld key evidence that shows he did not commit the crime. They always found that the state witness lied and that he never saw Ricky commit the crime because he was afraid of who he did see.
On August 14, Ricky’s conviction was overturned and he was free.
Ricky has spent the past nine months working with innocence projects in the Midwest, helping start a new innocence project at Gonzaga University, and sharing his story of resilience with the world. He has even started his own business called “I AM RESILIENCE”.
He was introduced to TikTok and has made several TikToks about how he got his life back on track.
He was falsely accused and thrown into jail for 23 years and now he’s getting his life back together and helping others.
That’s amazing.

Truly, that's amazing! Well, it should come as no surprise that the justice system las lots of loopholes, and many unfortunate victims fall into these holes, their lives scarred forever. But the amount of resilience shown by Mr. Ricky is truly exceptional. He saved himself, and is also saving the lives of many like him who have become victim to the dark side of the legal system. Thank you, Adalyn, for sharing this wonderful story!
