What is Indian thug life like?

Last year when I visited my Aunt's place, they were looking for a match for their son.
One morning after my parents left with uncle to meet some old acquaintance my aunt asked us to get ready.
“She is my friend’s daughter. I know you will like her,” She said when bhaiya(elder brother) asked her where we were going.
We reached their house and were warmly welcomed by my Aunt's friend.
Once inside, my Aunt got busy with her friend while I sat there with my brother who was eagerly waiting to see the girl.
She arrived after 20 minutes, the strong fragrance of her perfume reaching us before her.
She was absolutely gorgeous. I was kind of amazed by her sense of fashion. She was a bit short but looked really cute. In a light pink Saree she looked somewhat like this-

She sat opposite to my brother and the talks started.
“I would like to stay at home and care for my family instead of working,” she said when my brother asked about her job.
She then went on to describe how amazing she is at dancing, what a marvelous voice she has and what an amazing cook she is.
“All my friends are in love with my cooking. It's 100 % perfect,” She said.
She kept on bragging about her qualities until my Aunt and her friend excused themselves so that the duo gets some privacy. My brother didn't want to be left alone with her so I stayed back and moved to the other corner of the sofa pretending to be busy with my phone.
“You know what Sandeep, let me tell about the qualities I want in my man.”
“First of all I want my man to be tall (my brother is 5′5″: not so tall).”she paused and gave an awkward smile. “I mean really TALL. Plus he should have a six figure salary per month. You know it's very important for a decent lifestyle. He should match my standard and of course should be a bit good looking. It will be best if he has a car too. I am bored of my scooty.”
My jaws dropped as she said the last line. I mean come on he is my brother and not your Santa. I was really annoyed but my brother wore a constant smile.
“You know what Arpana, if that guy is rich, tall, good looking and is so full of all other qualities. Then…”
“Then?” She asked
“Then why will he marry you? Won't he marry someone who will match his level?”
Silence..
“Arpana, did you make these fries?”
“Yes,” she replied without looking up.
“Umm nice but it would be even better if you don't forget to add salt next time.”

Haha! So much for Miss Perfect! I must say the elder brother handled it like a pro. Put her right in her place. It grieves me how marriages today are all about how "economically compatible" the partners are, and everything else goes under the bus! Money isn't everything. Superficial stuff don't conert to marital happines that well; if anything, they just make people more frustrated. After all, marriage is a sacred bond of love and trust, it shouldn't be based on monetary or societal expectations. Too bad we still have people of this mentality, like this girl and her mother, who think money is everything. Kudos to the author and her elder brother.
